About

Welcome to Cedar Key Labradors! I’m Kara Hite and I’ve been involved with Labradors since 1980 when my parents were raising and breeding Labs with pedigrees going back to Sandylands Kennel in the UK. Throughout my life I’ve always had a Labrador at my side.

Our Labradors

Growing up wmy parents raising Labradors, I was introduced to the pedigrees from Sandylands and Rocheby kennels.

AKC Champion Labradors

Labrador Retrievers I have either owned or bred that are AKC champions.

Our History

In 2005, I bought my first show prospect, Kimberwick Back in Black, “Diesel,” sired by MBISS AM Can CH Beechcroft Study in Black. While Diesel won a few classes, he decided that practicing agility was much more fun, so we bowed out of the show ring early and spent more time practicing agility.

With our strong ties to the equine community, we have enjoyed bringing our Labs to the horse events and in 2017 we entered the AKC Conformation events with “Bronson,” CH Tealwood Who Needs To Study (Tyric Tealwood’s Quick Study x Tealwood’s Add A Step To The Strutt) from Tealwood Kennel. “Bronson” is now an AKC champion won several Owner-Handler Group placings with very limited showing. He enjoyed showing and I was thrilled to be at the end of his lead when we picked up his first major.

In 2018, I acquired a beautiful girl from Pedro Granados of Loremar Labradors. This special girl Loremar Black Quetzalli of Cedar Key, “Callie,” was born on Valentines Day 2018. Callie is a ball of energy but will settle down and snuggle as well. Callie picked up her AKC Championship in November 2021 in Ocala, FL, shortly after a huge 5 pt Winners placing at the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac’s Bare Bones Specialty in Frederick, MD. Callie is clear on all DNA tests through Paw Print Genetic testing and carries chocolate.

In 2021 we welcomed our first litter of puppies as a result of a breeding between these two and will be showing our keeper Cedar Key’s Salt, Lime & Tequila, “Zephyr.”

In 2023, we welcomed the Cinco de Mayo litter by CH Gallivant Joyful Jester, “JJ,” and out of “Callie.” This successful litter produced 4 AKC Champions in the year 2025. GCH Cedar Key & Suebel’s Brick House ATT FTI, GCH CedarKey Back to Flo Rida @ Suebel RN, CH Cedar Key King Keanu of Dakine RN CGC TKN FTN, and CH Cedar Key Cinco de Drinko at Everoak TKN. GCH CedarKey Back to Flo Rida @Suebel RN was also Reserve CC to the Best of Breed at Crufts in March 2026.

I’ve been actively involved in local clubs as well as breed-specific clubs and am a member of the Labrador Retriever Club (LRC) and Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac (LRCP). I currently serve as Treasurer of LRCP as well as being assistant to the co-Chair of the largest regional breed specialty with the April Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac Specialty. In 2025, I was appointed Breeder Coordinator for the Labrador Retriever Club and have enjoyed working with other breeders to improve their presence on the parent club site as well as providing resources to the general public looking to find ethical breeders. I am also a member of The National Beagle Club and Vice President of the Hound Association of Central Florida.

The Cedar Key Standard

Our name represents more than a breeding program.
It represents a standard.
A standard built on experience, upheld through action, and protected with intention.
And while others may seek the spotlight—
We remain focused on what truly matters:
The dogs. The work. The legacy.
